Open Water Swim Warm-Up

You may not always be able to warm up in the water before the start of your open water or triathlon event. However, this doesn’t mean you just walk up to the start and expect your body to be ready to race without a warm up.  .

I have a land routine that I like to loosen up my muscles and get my heart rate elevated, blood flowing, and loosen up my muscles. You can use before a race but can also be used as a warm-up before a training session to optimize your actual time in the water.

This is something you want to practice in training to get an idea of how much time is ideal for you to preform the movements and how you feel when you jump into the water and simulate a race pace feel after the dryland warm up.

If the water is cold, it is more important to acclimate to the water before you warm up.
