I first worked with Wendy in 2014 when she coached me in open water swimming. I had a knee injury and couldn’t run, so had shifted over to swimming. I selected Wendy because of her experience in triathlon, but her strong underlying experience in swimming (age group and collegiate). Compared to others I spoke with, she seemed to really get it–that I was getting into a new sport, that I had 3 kids still at home and a busy job, and that I needed to have someone help me with skills/form as well as workouts. My work with her in 2014-2015 was successful and got me launched into successfully completing open water races from 4 miles to 10ks. I took a break from her coaching for a few years, but came back in 2019 after knee surgery when I was able to run again. Her coaching took me from being “in recovery” from surgery to biking and trail running.
Today we are working together primarily on trail running—which is a recent passion of Wendy’s—and some swimming. Because of Wendy’s coaching, I have become extremely fit and am able take on the kinds of trail challenges I love—for example, last fall my husband and I went on a European trail running-vacation for 10 days, and then a few weeks later, I completed a 25k trail race here in Colorado. None of that would have been possible without Wendy’s support, both in terms of the workout regime, and also the fact that she always stresses having a “why” for the training/goals. As I’ve gotten older, I appreciate this emphasis on the mental/internal part of training as much as I appreciate her experience and insights that she brings to my workout plans. I’d highly recommend Wendy to anyone seeking a coach!
