Black Squirrel Half Marathon-Race Report

I was super happy to finish the 2015 Black Squirrel Half Marathon within a minute of the time I finished the Half Marathon in 2011. In 2011 I was training for Ultras. The past two years my focus has been on Triathlon. I have not yet balanced training for Ultras and Ironmans, something I plan to master in years to come.

I have to admit I was feeling in a bit of a running rut during the month of August. Running felt hard, I would get breathless and just felt depleted.  Mentally and physically exhausted.  Nothing like a connection with trail running to get my groove back. Saturday my legs felt fresh and my body felt light.

I started in the back and took it slow going uphill, I was not sure how I would feel since I have not ran on trails 2 times in the past 4 months.

I knew I would get passed on the decent and tried my best to keep the number at a minimum. I got passed by about 12 people running down Arthurs Rock Trail Head and was determined to pass them all the last 4 miles and I did, plus a few more. The hike up Longs Peak must have helped 🙂 I even stopped to talk a photo with the black squirrel.

It was a great day to see friends and support t2coaching athletes
