Swimming Golf

A game I like athletes to incorporate into their training routine to be mindful of swimming tempo and technique.

Swim either a 25, 50 or 100 meter/yard and count your strokes and add it to your time. If you take 50 strokes in 50 seconds your golf score is 100. Nex time if you swim another 50 with 48 strokes in 50 seconds golf score is 98 as if you swim a 50 meter with 50 strokes in 48 seconds golf score is 98. The idea is to play around with different stroke rates and times to see where you are more efficient with that stroke count and pace.  So the main set is a set of 9 or 18 X 50s. Keep track in your training log yoru stroke count and time. Take about 20  seconds rest for consistency. Purposely take more strokes and compare to your time or purposely take less strokes and compare to your time.

WU: 400 loosen up

MS: wear a pull buoy.

  1. Swim 50 count strokes and add to your time, that is your golf score. Example, 50 strokes in 50 seconds = 100.
  2. Then swim 50 with as many strokes as you can, add to your time. Try to add at least 10 strokes per length. So say 70 drokes in 50 seconds golf score is 120.
  3. Then swim 50 with the least amount of strokes focusing on pulling from behind, past your hip, and add to your time. So say 30 strokes in 50 seconds golf score is 80.

Record your normal stroke count, FASTest stroke count, and stroke count when you are trying to take less strokes then swim

9 or 18X50s best average stroke count and pace, with the goal of extending your stroke from behind, not out in front.
